When to take off the Mommy Cape...

Last (LAST) weekend, my parents were here--*yet another speed bump in my diet before we did my weigh-in* Really you call it a 'dunk'---since we had to be weighed underwater.
Don't ask me about the process because it was weird but fun.
Basically it was like a swimming pool/bathtub that you weigh in.

ANYWAY, I'm getting off topic...
So, my parents were in--and they love to go out to eat while they're here in Austin. Really, who doesn't love to go out to eat?
Friday night we went out to Hyde Park Grill--and I LOVE that place.
I did my best to behave :) I had a salad with blackened chicken.

However, I did have a few of the fries! If you have ever been there, then you know their fries are HEAVEN sent. Not kidding.

After that, we headed home to visit a little with my parents and we put the babies down to sleep.
My parents insisted that Justin and I got to go out for short date.
So we stuck around our little bubble on South Lamar and headed over to Red's Porch.
We sat at the bar to watch the FIRST COLLEGE FOOTBALL game of the season (Texas Tech and someone else....??? lol ) I ordered a Paloma, looking forward to a fresh/light drink to make up for the humid hot night.... I took a sip, and WOW was it AWFUL!

What was awkward was we were sitting right there at the bar, with the lady bartender who made my drink.
So...I pretty much just had to pretend to drink it--which made things even more-awkward because the glass is clear...therefore, she knew I wasn't drinking it....
And no, I'm not one to complain. I'm passive-aggressive ;)

So after spending a few minutes pretending to drink my drink we left when Justin finished his beer.

We jumped into the car and went down the road to Barlatta...a new place that opened on Lamar. We walked right in and to our surprised it smelled of fish!  Come to find out it was a seafood/wine dive. Not what we were expecting OR wanting, so we walked out.

THAT pretty much was our date.
Part of the reason for the BLAH date was because my mood--but I'll get to that later...

SATURDAY we woke and spent the day shopping
My mom, Kix and I hit up the mall (Dad, J and Kie did man things) and I had one of the best surprises ALL that day.

I walked in to Express, just browsing when I noticed all their cute new jeans. I grabbed two sizes.  The size I KNEW I was wearing (but had been tight on me) and a size smaller. This size smaller was my pre-Kix size.

I decided to see if the pre-(Kix) pregnancy size would even inch up my thighs...and well, by golly, they fit! AND I had room to wiggle! I was so overjoyed! I sent the picture of me in my jeans to my husband and a few girlfriends---obviously celebrating.
And Justin sent me the sweetest text back, that I looked great and to get them!
Soooo I did.

Now I'm back in my pre-Kix jeans--but ultimately I want to wear my pre-Kie*** jeans. (Which is one more size down).

I'm not a size 0 or 2...I'm a size 8. And that's NOT embarrassing. This body has gained and lost over 100lbs and produced two healthy children. My body, that GOD above has blessed me, has done me good! So, I'll GLADLY take a size 8 :) Plus, all my squats are giving me a nice bum ;)

I digress, well my day of shopping produced a new dress from Nordstrom, a new top and some jewelry for church. Basically I wanted one new dress for church but figured I could dress-up the rest of my old items to make them seem new :)

My parents went to the UT game and we had to get all the updates on ESPN Scoreboard since we don't have the Longhorn Network (LAME!) thankfully we won!

Earlier that day, my mom and I had already discussed how Justin and I were going to go back out after the game to make up for our 'fail-date' the night before. My mom gave me one of the best mother/daughter talks she has ever given.  It was over marriage and motherhood.  Basically, I suffer from wearing my MOM cape too much. I mean, I'm always a mom. Most moms, always are moms. We don't get days off. We don't get time off and we don't get sick days.  For me, I stay in mom mode.  I am a mom. I love being a mom and my children come first.  However, sometimes...there are those moments that being a mom...needs to be behind something. For instance, GOD should always be placed before being a mom.  Your husband should be before your children. (Though, I don't practice what I preach).  Basically, my mom told me I needed to be MORE than a mom.  Us moms have to be many things! We're a mom, we're maids, we're taxi drivers, we're short-order cooks, we're teachers, nurses, Sunday school teachers, pirates, boo-boo kissers, captains, tickle monsters, princesses...the list goes on!
Basically, she told me I needed to not only be a Mom for my children, but to be a fun-loving wife for my husband when that time comes (i.e, on those very rare date-nights).

My husband and I met when we BOTH were having fun and going out.  Part of the reason I fell for him was because he was so laid back and fun natured (unlike previous boyfriends).  I was also a lot of fun and enjoyed going out and dressing up. Believe it or not, I didn't live in yoga pants!
So, my mom said that I needed to tap into that head space...because, if you're a mom you KNOW how hard it is to stop being in mom mode.

It's easy for me to serve my children, my husband and to be in the role of a Mommy/Domestic Wifey...but, it's sometimes easy to forget that I also should relax and enjoy myself and not always be thinking of poop diapers and laundry ;)

Therefore, I slipped on my new jeans, my new top that my mom surprised me with--and I got dolled up! (for me)
And we headed downtown.  I said a prayer to God to help me just keep my mind on Justin and not my babies.  I knew my kids were asleep and safe at home with my mom and dad...
so, my eyes and mind were only on my husband.

We went out to some of our old stomping grounds and boy was it fun!
We went downtown and even ran into some old friends--and it was nice just getting out. It was cool-ish evening and TEXAS won so I was in a great mood. PLUS, I was in my new-skinny jeans.
All in all, it was a great night! We got home and to bed--and the next day we had Sunday school ;)
More on that later!

ANYWAY, lesson is ladies....

Even though we're mommies,
our husbands have needs.
Yes, they love that we're GREAT moms...but, they also fell in love with us BEFORE we were blessed into motherhood.
So, tape into that from time to time ;)

Until next time,

Body Fat Test Results

So, a few weeks back I posted about how I was doing a hydrostatic body fat test through Camp Gladiator.  In short, we were suppose to do a Nutrition Challenge, where we got our body fat tested for the BEFORE and then 4 weeks later we did the AFTER to see where we end up.

I started the challenge because I needed motivation after coming back from the week at the beach where I drank and ate and was merry.
I was merry...but not merry when I stepped back on the scale.

So, the CG Nutrition Challenge was JUST what I needed.
Except, the timing was bad because I was going to be in Atlanta during one of the weeks.

Regardless of my bad week of eating in Atlanta (and oh, it could of been worse) I tried by best to behave and workout once back in Austin.

The key, was not only eating clean(ish) but also making sure I had adequate protein.  It's easy for me to not to eat meats and proteins, but the body needs them. (If you're really interested in foods and what your body needs, you should check out the DVD or rent it on your tablet, FAT HEAD. It is very educational.) Anyway, I digress...
I needed to keep up my muscle mass...by the way, I'm 108lbs of lean body mass!

When you diet and cut calories, your body goes into a starvation mode and usually goes for muscle first for fuel.  So, I knew I needed to keep lifting weights and maintaining a diet high in protein so that my body would use the fat for energy.

So, four weeks, of not so strict diet, but GREAT workouts and constant movement...
helped me de-bloat and lose some.

I lost 5lbs of pure fat!
I did not lose one ounce of muscle.
In fact, I gained .3 ounces of muscle.

I was happy with the results...especially since I was not 100% clean eating.
A few things that worked for me was to in fact, EAT!
I did not starve myself, but I tried my best to be pretty low-carb. I did make sure to have carbs when we would run longer distances in CG--but really I tried to have a diet high in healthy proteins, veggies and some fruits.

Anyway, I am excited about my results and want to keep pushing myself.  I still am HIGH in fat and would love to get my overall body fat percentage down.
I wasn't going to share this, but my body fat percentage was 30.2%.
THAT IS HIGH, YALL! In fact, it's very unhealthy!

I lost around 2.5% body fat in 4weeks--which the man that ran the test said was impressive since I lost no muscle.
So, currently I'm 27.7% Body fat.

However, I still am in an 'unhealthy' range. I really want to get my body down to 20% of body fat or less. But, I know that requires a lot of work. But, I feel I'm ready to tackle that. There is another testing in October that I plan to do.

This time, I strive to be at least 90-95% clean eating and lift heavier. I want to start Crossfit but I'm unsure if I can juggle that and Camp Gladiator and everything else at 5am everyday. But, I really want to get strong and build muscle.

To me, being skinny is easy enough...you simply DON'T EAT!

But, for me...I want to be STRONG. I want to have muscle and definition!
It's something I've always wanted and never really understood how to get it until lately.
I always thought I would have to run for miles and miles to see my muscles...and that's just NOT the case.

In fact, before I got pregnant with Kix--I was running miles and miles and miles. Every Saturday I woke up and ran 7, 8, 9 miles on top of all the running we did at CG....and I was STILL the same size. Now I think I'm finally figuring out how to do what I want to do with my body.
It's just a matter of GETTING UP and doing it!

Anyway, that's my little exercise rant! ;)

Expect for some BEFORE pictures to come----and hopefully by the end of October I'll have some after pictures!

PS stay tuned for "WHEN TO TAKE OFF THE MOMMY CAPE"!

Lots of pictures...
and my confession ;)

Until next time,

Baby catch-up (9 and 10 months!)

I've been such a bad blogger mom lately.

Kix is growing like a WEED!
I haven't posted his monthly updates like I said I was going to do, but---life happens ;) and I've been busy! (all in a good way)

BUT, let me catch you up to speed...
when Kix was 9months old (just a few days back)
he....

  • still had only 2 teeth
  • was a crawling fast maniac
  • he stands everywhere
  • is obsessed with ME
  • hasn't slept a WHOLE night since birth. YUP, you've read that right. Kie was our golden child and sleep trained early. *Kix, is my insomniac little night owl!
  • REGARDLESS, of not sleeping--he is my love bug!
  • he is rough and tumble...way tougher that Kie was this age
  • Kix eats everything he can get his hands on --he loves bananas, sweet potatoes and apples.
  • he loves the water--to swim (in the pool) and he loves the sprinkler.
  • he is around 22-24lbs
  • he still wears sized 3 diapers
  • he wear 12-18months clothes for the most part
  • his hair is coming in thicker and thicker...oh, did I mention he has curls?
  • His eyes are massively huge and blue
  • Kie still calls him BoBo...so we call him BoBo as well.
  • He was also dedicated at our church on July 28th---when he was a very new 9month old :)
  • Kix is curious and inquisitive.
  • He is smart and catches on very easily
  • And did I mention he is FAST?!
NOW......to now
He is 10 months :)

  • We now have 3 teeth!!! And a 4th one coming in. (We have two lower two and a front tooth in.)
  • Kix still wears size 3 diapers.
  • His hair is getting fuller everyday. Much unlike his brother who had no hair until after 1.
  • We can clap.
  • We can wave. (Which we started probably at 8 months)
  • We love to eat avocado, beans, chicken salad and hummus.
  • We can stand up and sit down, unassisted and without holding on.
  • We walk the furniture everywhere.
  • We have been moved into our own room now. :(
  • Kix can say "momma"
  • Kix is brave and stable on his feet.
  • He takes risks.
  • He shows little fear.
  • He loves electrical outlets. Lol.
  • And he has to be a part of everything going on in the house. As in, you can't walk out of the room one second without him having a meltdown.
  • He has my heart!
I know I don't have any girls to compare this to, but I LOVE having boys!
They're wild, energetic and loud.
They're precious and lovey--and they're definitely little Mommy's boys!
(Especially Kix) Kie is my independent little helper.
He is constantly helping me watch Kix.

I sometimes wish we could have a third boy....
but, we'll see where God takes us.

For now, I'm SO in love and LOVED by 3 Knuth boys and that's a great feeling!
I'm forever grateful to be a momma to these two babies!
(And yes, Kie is STILL my baby-always and forever.)

Ps, I asked Kie the other day what he wanted to be when he grows up?

His reply,
"I'm gonna grow up big and take care of you."

It melted my heart.
Justin then told me I needed to get that in writing!
HA!

Anywho, I have a lot to catch-up with!
I'm now on Instagram (yes, I'm late to the party).  I love it because I post everything on there and don't have to worry about bugging or filling every one's news feed on Facebook.
So, come find me.

OH, and stay tuned.
Remember that Body Fat test I did a few weeks back?
I got my results this week!
